Leah Salonga, Broadway Musical star
No other Filipina has performed in more critically-acclaimed musicals left and right than Leah Salonga-Chien, a proud talent of the Philippine showbusiness industry. Indeed, the name Leah Salonga is synonymous to world-class talent that warrants a standing ovation every time. The eldest child of Feliciano Genuino Salonga and Ligaya Alcantara Imutan, Leah was born in Angeles City before her family relocated to Manila. There, she studied at the Ateneo de Manila University at a time when she auditioned for Miss Saigon.
Playing Kim in the said musical earned her several awards including the Sir Laurence Olivier award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical and a Tony, as well as the Outer Critics Circle, Theatre World and Drama Desk Awards. Currently, this Filipina icon is married to Robert Charles Chien, a Chinese-Japanese managing director of an entertainment software firm in Los Angeles, California, USA.
