Filipino Festivals

Most, if not every Philippine town celebrates its annual feasts with so much grandeur that Filipino culture has become almost synonymous with colourful festivals. Being a predominantly Catholic nation, Filipino feasts are celebrated in honour of a city or town’s patron saint. During these affairs, street dancing and parades usually follow after the high mass in the church. One can expect a lavish display of vibrant colourful costumes and elaborate makeup not only among the participating street dancers but also among the people of watching crowds. This grand way of expressing their devotion is indeed a cultural trait that can definitely be said to be uniquely Filipino.

Some of the most famous Philippine festivals are the Ati-Atihan of Aklan, the Dinagyang of Iloilo, the Sinulog Festival of Cebu, and the Pintados festival of Tacloban, among many others.
