Journalists
* Ted Failon
Mario Teodoro Failon Etong is a Filipino broadcast journalist anchoring TV Patrol World, the main news programme of ABS-CBN, the country’s largest broadcasting network. He is also a radio commentator and newscaster of DZMM, the radio station owned and managed by the same network company. Having his ancestral roots in Tacloban, Leyte he choose to serve the people there by running for a congressional seat from 2001-2004, which he won. But Congressman Ted Failon decided to cut short his political career by representing the first district of Leyte for only one term, then quickly resumed his broadcasting career after that. He is also a regular columnist under the Philippine Daily Inquirer through its Inquirer Libre newsletter.
I can proudly say that Filipino journalists who are based here in our own country can be compared with foreign writers as equals. We can boast of the same dynamism and integrity in the way they report a worthy story. Mr. Ted Failon is just one living proof. He is an advocate of good governance, press freedom, democracy, social justice, and is thus, a greatly respected commentator (in politics and other social issues) and broadcaster.
* Korina Sanchez
Korina Baluyut Sanchez is a popular TV host and broadcast journalist serving her home network, ABS-CBN for more than two decades. She is one of the most respected personalities in the industry and one of the front-liners in Philippine broadcast journalism. She is the only girl in a brood of three, with Celia, a singer mother, and Ramon, a hotel manager as a father. They met in Hong Kong where she was born. She first started as a station weather girl and advanced to be the hourly news break announcer. She later became the executive producer and host to some of ABS-CBN’s social and news programs.
Professional journalism entails meticulous and proper documentation of events in order to conceive a story on any significant issue. This is Miss Korina Sanchez’s belief too, being a known advocate against medical malpractice (among other abuses) in the Philippines. Throughout her journalism career, she has received numerous awards by prestigious award-giving bodies in the Philippines, and with her professional and private integrity, she will surely continue to reap more worthy awards.
